The XTREME Decathlon by American Champion Aircraft
Aerobatics Australia Pty Ltd was the launch customer for the American Champion Aircraft (ACA) Xtreme Decathlon aircraft, an upgrade of the Super Decathlon 8KCAB. The Xtreme has a 210 hp Injected Lycoming 390 engine with extraction exhaust, and dynafocal engine mounts. The MT composite prop was designed by MTs Martin Albrecht (five times Aerobatics champion of Germany) to optimise performance coupled with the 390 engine. The undercarriage legs were lengthened to cater for the longer prop, but ground visibility was only slightly reduced due to a new cowling design. New rounded ailerons the increase roll rate while decreasing stick load, eliminating the need for aileron spades, improving handling. The wingtip is shorter to further improve roll rate. The result is outstanding performance while maintaining the docile, gentle manners of the original Suped D. Climb rate at gross is 1580 rpm, and 120 kts cruise at economical power. The Xtreme is a
delight to fly, and with +6 to -5 g capable of inside and outside manoeuvres to intermediate completion level.
